Whois Record Contact Definitions

  • Registrant (high importance):
Legal domain owner. Changing this email triggers RAA verification within 15 days.

  • Administrator (Admin) (high importance):
    Manages the domain.

  • Technical Contact (less important):
Handles technical details; usually the Admin.

  • Billing Contact (less important):
Gets renewal invoices; often Registrant or Admin. Some registrars no longer show Billing Contact.

Step-by-Step: Change Your Whois Contact Information

Step 1: Log In

  • Log in to the KartHost Customer Center.

  • Start from “My Dashboard.”

Step 2: Access Your Domain List

  • On the top menu, click Domains > My Domains
    or
Click the Domains box on your dashboard.

Step 3: Find Your Domain

  • Locate your domain using the list, filter (e.g., "Active"), or search bar.

Step 4: Edit Contact Information

  • To the right of the domain’s row, click the three dots “...”

  • Select Edit Contact Information.

Step 5: Choose Editing Mode

  • Option 1: Use existing Account Contact (uses your KartHost account details)

  • Option 2: Specify custom information below (for a different registrant, e.g., a client or family member)

Step 6: Update Contact Sections

There are four sections on the page (see ICANN rule changes for 8/21/2025):

  • Registrant (Owner is Company/Organization if bland the First/Last Name of individual)

  • Admin

  • Technical

  • Billing

Do not change the “Contact ID”—for internal system use only.

Registrant Section

  • If you change the Full Name, Email Address, or Organization/Company Name, an RAA Verification or Consent Email is triggered and sent to email addresses in Registrant. You must approve using the link in the email.

  • Other details (physical address, phone, etc.) do not usually require RAA verification, but must be correct and ICANN-compliant.

Admin, Technical, Billing Sections

  • Updates here do not usually trigger verification emails, but details must be accurate.

Step 7: Save Changes

  • When finished, click SAVE CHANGES.

Step 8: If Needed, Complete Email Verification

  • If ICANN emails are triggered, promptly approve both via the links sent.

Step 9: Need Help?

  • If you can't access the required email, open a KartHost support ticket for us to resend it. You may also have the option to resend in the Domain Management.
